In their final away Suburban League game of the season at Tonbridge Angels, the reserves went down by seven goals to three in a remarkable game.
In an amazing opening period, both sides had found the net within the first four minutes. Tonbridge took the lead but Max Moore quickly levelled when he fired home a free-kick on the edge of the box, but the home side were quickly in front again, then with just ten minutes on the clock they made it 3-1 from the penalty spot.
Tonbridge pushed for more goals, and were awarded another penalty, which was well saved by Mark Britt. However in the melee that followed the referee spotted a further offence, and gave another penalty – which was again saved by Mark!
The home side did get their fourth following a corner – which actually should have been a throw-in – and before the break, the spot-kick happy referee gave Tonbridge penalty number four, which they converted.
After the interval the goals slowed for a while, but with fifteen minutes remaining it was Woods’ turn for a penalty, which Max Moore fired home. Soon after, Tonbridge made it 6-2, before penalty number six (is this a record?) was awarded, in Northwood’s favour – which Max Moore netted to complete his hat-trick. Just before the end the home team wrapped up the scoring, to leave a remarkable game at 7-3.
